Hey, hey, hey!!! Another Wednesday has arrived!! You obviously cannot tell through a computer screen but I am doing my half way through the week happy dance right now .
Let’s get this dance party started and dive right into what I ate yesterday!!
Breakfast: A couple pieces of Ezekiel toast topped with peanut butter, Simply Fruit Strawberry and a sprinkle of chia seeds. It was quick, easy and tasty. Just how I like my meals early in the morning
Snack: A 100 calorie pack of almonds and some unpictured veggie straws from Trader Joe’s.
Lunch: This was definitely my most favorite and filling meal of the day. I normally don’t take much time to put lunch together but since there wasn’t anything pressing going on, I decided to spend a little extra time in the kitchen. When I say extra time, it probably only took 15-20 minutes total but like I said, for lunch I am usually a grab and go girl!
Veggie Pizza topped with zucchini, spinach, carrots and onion. I also used a tiny bit of muenster cheese along with feta to make it extra special. My only regret is that I didn’t make myself two of them!! Oh well, I had the super delicious veggies on the side to leave me feeling nice and satisfied!!
Snack #2: Banana, peanut butter and a little bit of shredded coconut took care of the afternoon sweet craving I was having. I have found that lately when I am having a craving, if I go with more of a natural sweet food vs a packaged sweet food my craving is taken care of more quickly. I swear, most of the time junk food just leaves me wanting more of it.
Snack #3: I knew I wouldn’t be eating dinner until after 7pm tonight so I decided it would be smart to put something in my belly before taking Camryn to cheer practice. I decided on some Triscuits and Trader Joes Hummus. Wow….Trader Joes makes some darn good hummus!! Lance and I both think we like it even more than Sabra and we REALLY like that brand. I have also had a slight obsession with Triscuits lately. I love them plain, with peanut butter, cheese, cottage cheese or dipped into hummus. So good!
Dinner: It was a cereal for dinner kind of night at my house, at least for me. I really have no clue what Lance and the boy had because I told Lance they would have to fend for themselves tonight. I am assuming they managed just fine because I didn’t hear any complaints about hunger when I got home. Good boys…..I knew they could do it!!
Fall into Good Habits
At the beginning of the month, I decided to join in the September theme of “What I Ate Wednesday” by coming up with some health habits that I would like to “Fall into”.
I chose to work on the habits of getting
- 7 or more hours of sleep per night
- 8 or more cups of water per day
I have to say, following through with these up to this point has been pretty easy. I haven’t been perfect but being aware has made a big difference in committing myself. Tuesday for instance, I only managed to drink 6 cups of water and Saturday I only got about 5 hours of sleep due to staying up late and reading. Other than those couple of slip ups I have been pretty proud of myself!!
These small healthy habits that I have been working towards have also opened my eyes to other areas in my life that may need a little extra work. After evaluating some areas of my life, I have decided on another habit, or goal may be a better word, to work on in the month of September. Patience. Ugh! I have a feeling this one is going to be a real test for me. I hate to admit it because I want to be patient person but I think I may be one of the most impatient people I know. In some ways, I don’t mind it so much because it means I get stuff done! However, more often than not my lack of patience is definitely not working in my favor.
Many times, I am quite impatient with my children and this causes me to be pushy towards them and I won’t lie(even though I hate admitting it) I also lose my temper and become the dreaded mom that yells. Yep, people….I am far from perfect in the parenting department.
While I think it is important for children to learn time management, I also need to let them stop and experience life around them without constantly rushing. If my daughter is having a hard time with her homework, I need to not become frustrated and just allow her the time to work through the problem. If my son wants to run around the yard trying to catch a grasshopper before we head out to run errands, I should let him take that extra minute or two. Goodness, life goes by SO quickly and I don’t want to be that person who rushed their way through it, forgetting to stop and enjoy the moments in life that truly matter.
I really don’t have a great plan on how to work at becoming more patient other than just being aware that it a behavior that needs to be corrected. I guess I just have to find some patience when it comes to being a more patient person……..
